Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District (ORSWMD)
The Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District (ORSWMD) provides planning and technical assistance in the area of solid waste management for the seven-county region that includes Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties. In addition, the ORSWMD has a District Grant Program which provides funding for projects which will reduce the volume of solid waste being land filled through education/awareness, waste reduction, reuse and recycling programs. These grants are available to local governments, schools, businesses and organizations.
The ORSWMD also provides a variety of programs to residents of the region, including special collections for items like electronic waste, tires and appliances; permanent satellite collection centers for Household Hazardous Waste (HHW); and educational opportunities through Earth Day poster and trash art contests and solid waste facility tours for school-aged children.
ORSWMD is governed by a full council and executive board made up of local elected officials and their appointees, and receives input from an advisory committee of local citizens and industry representatives.
